SARCOIDOSIS! WHAT IS IT?

Sarcoidosis of the Midlands of South Carolina is sponsoring its first “Sarcoidosis Awareness Campaign” which will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008 in Columbia , South Carolina , Gervais Street (north side of the State House).  The purpose of the “Awareness Campaign” is to heighten awareness about the disease. Sarcoidosis of the Midlands is creating a platform for you to let your voices be heard and to hear others tell their stories.   This “Awareness Campaign” is designed to provide every person in the state of South Carolina diagnosed with Sarcoidosis an opportunity to share his or her concerns, issues, struggles, frustrations, and triumphs as they relate to Sarcoidosis.  Individuals will be able to get information about: (a) starting/maintaining a Sarcoidosis Chapter or support group, (b) participating in advocacy activities, (c) working with the General Assembly regarding Sarcoidosis concerns, and (f) celebrating National Sarcoidosis month in April every year.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic immune deficiency disease, wherein, inflamed granulomas are formed creating complications throughout the body (e.g., systems, organs, tissues).  The cause of the disease is still unknown with no cure, and only treatments for the symptoms associated with the disease.  Complications can result in death.

Sarcoidosis of the Midlands is a not-for-profit 501 © 3 organization with tax exempt status.  The organization’s mission is to heighten awareness, to promote education, to enhance advocacy, and to increase research to improve the quality of life for persons diagnosed with Sarcoidosis.  The vision is to find a cure.  It is a time to meet other people diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, help increase your network circle; and establish open conversation around the state for support for the many causes that persons with Sarcoidosis are confronted with everyday.
